Window Profile

All Shaws products use the very best profile sections. We believe no compromise is permissible when it comes to the basic materials from which our windowsdoors and conservatories are made.

Shaws products are made using profiles manufactured in Germany by Kommerling. Our long-term partnership with them has proved time and time again that quality is paramount, and gives us the confidence to offer 15 year guarantees on window and door construction. Our windows also have a unique slim sash plus bevelled and ovolo beads which are exclusive to us.

Kommerling profiles are renowned for their perfect sheen. Our years of experience with the product has shown us that not only do our windows look great when they are installed but that they will continue to do so for years to come.

And buying a PVC-u window does not mean you are limited to white. Our products are available in a range of woodgrain finishes, which optionally come as woodgrain outside with white inside.

Many people are concerned about the environmental impact of the windows they choose. We are proud that for a long time the profile we have used at Shaws is lead free and kinder to the planet.

Energy Rating

Save Energy, Save Money

We are all much more energy conscious than we were a few years ago, and one of the easiest ways to reduce your household use of energy is to fit energy efficient windows and doors. After loft and wall insulation, it’s the best way to spend your money to get a return on your investment.

The BFRC Rating Scheme

Along with domestic appliances like washing machines and refrigerators, windows have an easy to understand colour coded rating system. This runs from G, the worst windows, up to A, the best and most thermally efficient. Shaws are pleased to be able to offer ‘B’ and ‘C’ rated windows, which offer the best value for money in terms of energy saving against the cost of the window given today’s technology.

Energy Saving Recommended

The Energy Savings Trust is an organisation that promotes best practice in energy use and their ‘Energy Saving Recommended’ label (the blue triangle) is an easy guide for consumers to use to identify the best products available. All Shaws Energy Rated windows meet their efficiency standard.

How much will I save?

Since all houses are different, it’s impossible to give a figure that will be accurate in all cases. Typically, however, a ‘B’ rated window will save you around £20 per year per window when compared to a traditional single-glazed timber window. Shaws windows use special glass, spacer bars and inert gas fills to achieve the savings.

Energy Rated or Energy Efficient?

Some products can not, as yet, be given an official BFRC energy rating. You can still, however, buy matching sealed units for your doors, tilt and turn windows, patio doors and other non-rated products. This will save you money on running costs when compared to older-style units.

A Certificate you can Trust

With all Energy Rated windows, you will receive a certificate from your installer to prove your windows are among the most efficient money can buy. This is something that you can pass on when you move home, increasing the value of your property. All windows also carry a discreet certificate label that proves their manufacture.

Pilkington K Glass™

Overview

The UK’s leading solution for thermal insulation in homes and public buildings, Pilkington K Glass™ is a low emissivity coated glass which is easily stocked, processed and installed. Pilkington K Glass™ has been established for more than 15 years making it the trusted solution for meeting energy efficiency Building Regulations.

Pilkington K Glass™ usually forms the inner pane of an Insulating Glass Unit (IGU) such as Pilkington Insulight™ Therm. The coating reflects heat back into the room whilst also letting in free heat from the sun known as passive solar gain. Pilkington K Glass™ helps windows to achieve high Window Energy Ratings to demonstrate compliance with energy saving Building Regulations Part L.

Benefits

  • Recognised by the Energy Saving Trust as a significantly effective measure for achieving energy efficiency hence savings on fuel bills.
  • Ideal for conservatories – helps to keep an unheated conservatory comfortable for a greater part of the year than ordinary double glazing allowing you to make the most of your conservatory all year round.
  • Helps to achieve high Window Energy Ratings when combined in a suitable framing system
  • Easily helps to meet and exceed the requirements of Building Regulations concerning energy efficiency
  • Can be toughened or laminated for safety and greater security.
  • Can be combined with other Pilkington products such as Pilkington Activ™ or Pilkington Activ™ Blue for self-cleaning and solar control

How it Works

The glass in your windows absorbs heat then radiates it again on the colder, outside, surface. Pilkington K Glass™ has a so-called low emissivity coating which is positioned on surface 3 (counting from the outside) of the Insulating Glass Unit(IGU).

The low emissivity coating is a poor radiator of heat. So the heat absorbed by the coated glass does not travel across the air gap to the outer pane and the cold outside world. Instead the coating reflects the heat back into the room.

Windows incorporating Pilkington K Glass™ allow heat from the sun through and keep heat inside, making it easier and more cost effective to keep buildings warm.
