Extension, Conservatory & Property Maintenance
Shaws Home Improvement Services also include Extensions & Property Maintenance, managed from start to finish with expert craftsmen and professional advice
Adding an extension is the ideal way to re-design and add space to your home that you may feel you are growing out of. Although it does take a lot of careful planning and preparation, it is obvious that it is the more economically logic solution in comparison to moving home. With the cost of agent fee’s to sell your home, and the stamp duty on the one you are considering purchasing – you may well find that you can bag yourself an extension of a considerable size for the same amount.
Not only this, but you and your families lives remain undistributed by the process. Rather than the excessive stress of packing all your things, moving neighbourhoods, perhaps schools and jobs if your new property is far away, you can carry on your lives as normal whilst your new addition is being constructed. Then, if you ever decide that you do want to bid farewell to your home in the future – the extension adds a considerable amount of value to the property which will contribute massively in the selling of it.
Our innovative and creative designs that are handled with by the utmost skilled professionals will provide solutions that truly make the most of what your property has to give, and are tailored to each individuals situation and requirements. We will work closely with you to understand your desires for your home and will ensure that we truly bring this to life in the extension we build for you.

What do I need to consider before building an extension?
This will vary for each case of construction, due to the individual factors/properties each home has depending on its surroundings etc. However, we can give you a guideline of things that are typically considered a problem or inconvenience when planning to extend a home.
Any thing that may cause disturbance/inconvenience to your neighbourhood or is detrimental to the environment and cannot be deemed feasible, will usually result in refusal of planning permission for your property to construct an extension, such as:
- Soil Conditions
- Surrounding Trees
- Access – Cars/Driveways
- History of Flooding
- Rights of way
How much will it cost?
Pretty much every factor will determine the cost of your extension, whether it be basic or high spec materials you use, the type of doors you incorporate or even the paint you coat the walls with. It is said that typically around 50% of the cost will cover the construction of the extension, whilst the over 50% will take care of the interior. Each price is different depending on the desired look and the customers requirements, however you can follow these rough guidelines of typical extension costs to get an idea of how much you will have to fork out for one.
Basic construction materials tend to market for around £1,500 per square metre, with high spec materials estimating at about double the price. If you’re wanting to incorporate bi-folding doors, then you’re looking near £1,500 per metre for these. Environmental/physical factors to have a tendency to increase the cost of the construction, so expect a slightly more expensive price if your home is located near any trees, sloping ground, clay, etc.
Aside from Extension/Conservatory Construction, we also offer a comprehensive range of Property Maintenance services to ensure that you’re happy with your home all year round.
